Upon This Rock…
Building Blocks – “Kindred Spirit”

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Matthew 16:18 NIV

Over the past few weeks we have been looking at specific building blocks of the church that Christ established. Specifically Righteousness, Obedience, Conviction, and today we look at having a Kindred Spirit with Christ.

R – Righteousness

O – Obedience

C – Conviction

K – Kindred Spirit

A Kindred Spirit

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2 ESV

All through the gospels we read the stories, the words of Christ, we view His examples and we hear the parables, giving us insight into the life and nature of Jesus.
In Philippians 2, the Apostle Paul details an excellent outline of the nature of Christ. Specific entries give in-depth descriptions of the qualities, characteristics, and heart of our Savior.

To close out this series I ask you to clear your calendar, turn off the noise, and prayerfully review the specifics of this narrative outlining the nature of Jesus…

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.  Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.  Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not
count equality with God a thing to be grasped,  but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human

form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,  so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,  and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:1-11 ESV

Having a Kindred Spirit with Christ is essential in becoming the church that He has mapped out for us to be. “Upon this Rock”…  upon you (insert your name here)… you are valuable and Christ will build His church through you.

Again, you are valuable, you are the church. Let God build in you…

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Philippians 2:12-13 ESV
