Immanuel

“Immanuel”

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:23

Christmas songs have been around for decades, even centuries. But, occasionally one comes upon the scene that really makes an impact. That’s how I felt the first time I heard the Christmas carol, “What Child is This?”. Over the years I have learned to love that song even more, and especially during the holidays. It reminds us all of the significance of who Christ is.

Today, I want to ask you, “Who is He to you”?

We know who He is. The Bible describes him as “God with us”. I learned the meaning of the word Immanuel as a small boy in Sunday School. My teacher’s name was Brother Clemmeth Layman. He probably forgot about teaching Sunday School that particular  day, but to a small boy he made the word Immanuel come alive! As I’ve walked with God for all these years, I have never forgotten the meaning of Immanuel, God with us.

So, back to the song…”What Child is This?”. Who is Jesus Christ to you? What is He saying? Will you serve Him and love Him with all of your heart?

It’s the purpose of Christmas, God connected to you and you connected to God. Immanuel, God with us. He is the reason for the season!

With just a few days until Christmas, how about taking a break from your busy schedule to reflect on the value of the best Christmas gift ever! Immanuel, God with us.

When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. Matthew 1:24-25
